LOS ANGELES, June 27 (UPI) -- The red and black leather jacket U.S. pop star Michael Jackson wore in his "Thriller" music video has been sold at auction for $1.8 million.The zombie-themed clip was for the title track off of Jackson's wildly popular 1982 "Thriller" album.
EW.com said Texas businessman Milton Verret bought the piece of music memorabilia Sunday.Verret said he intends to display the jacket at an Austin children's hospital, then will send it on tour to raise more money for youth-oriented charities, the entertainment news Web site reported.The Hollywood Reporter said the iconic garment was expected to sell for around $200,000 at the sale, which was overseen by Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, Calif.
Jackson died June 25, 2009, at the age of 50. His doctor is awaiting trial on involuntary manslaughter charges for allegedly administering the anesthesia and sedatives that killed the singer whom he was attempting to treat for insomnia.
