History of Viagra

History of Viagra

Viagra was initially developed a heart condition called angina, during the testing period for this drug it was found to give an erection to men. The drug was patented in 1996, approved in 1998 making viagra the first official drug to treat erection problems and being made available for sale later that year. The success of this drug is over whelming. You can get viagra on perscription from your doctors or on numerous websites after consultation (a mere questionaire). The fact is, it has improved the sex lives of millions men and women around the world. Annual sales of Viagra in the period 1999 - 2001 exceeded £750,000,000.

It was first thought that Viagra would lead to a drop in the market for traditional remedies which came from specific body parts of endangered species. This is highly unlikely as the traditional remedies is a treatment not just for erectile dificinency e.g. the Rhinoceros horns are used for high fever. Further on it is unclear that natural remedies will be able to compete with Viagra, due to its aphrodisiac properties.

Since Viagra's release, there has been an increase in 'fake viargra' being sold on the interne which looks like viagra (blue diamond pill) will the companies name, Pfizer engraved on it. These have proven to be dangerous and you must be careful where you buy viagra. Check out our purchasing viagra guide.

Pfizer's worldwide patents on Viagra will expire in 2011 - 2013. The UK patent held by Pfizer on the use of Viagra as treatment of impotence has been invalidated in 2000 because of obviousness; this decision was upheld on appeal in 2002.

Side Effects of Viagra

Like all drugs you take, there are some side effects to Viagra which are:

  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Upset stomach
  • Stuffy nose
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Visual changes such as mild and temporary changes in blue/green colors or increased sensitivity to light.
  • Diarrhea

These are often temporary and mild.

If sex is participated using viagra but with no condom then the chance developing a sexually transmitted disease increases. There are many STD's such as HIV/Aids, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea to name a few. The lesson of this is even though sex is great the consequences be bad so wear protection.

After taking viagra, if your erection lasts over 4 hours then you must call your doctor immediately or otherwise your penis maybe permanently damaged.

Viagra may cause other side effects besides those listed on this page. If you want more information or develop any side effects or symptoms you are concerned about, call your doctor.

The Drug Viagra

Viagra is a drug which gives men erections specifically designed for males who have erectile dysfunction.

It is a blue pill which can be taken by a male under 30 minutes before he participates in sexual intercourse. To work he must be sexually turned on or the drug will not work.

Viagra can help older males with diabetics or a spinal cord injury. Men should not take it if they have had a history of heart conditions or if they are on nitroglycerine tablets for angina.

Erectile dysfunction could be related to heart disease or vascular disease so Viagra should not be taken if there are risks or diagnosed with any of these.

Viagra is great for couples in a loving relationship where the male has difficulties in maintaining an erection and the female miss's and enjoys sex.

Viagra is not a cure for a bad relationship. If the male is a bad lover, then the drug wont make him a instant 'sex god'. If the female hated sex, she wont suddenly like sex. Many problems can arise because of taking viagra in a relationship such as the female faking orgasms as she is afraid that her lover may go and find another woman or the pill turns him on more than her. The overall verdict is if there are problems in the relationship then viagra will not cure them a marriage or sex therapist might.
