World's First Computer Mouse (1964): by Douglas Engelbart

The world's first computer mouse was made by Douglas Engelbart in 1964, it consisted of two gear-wheels positioned perpendicular to each other -- allowing movement on one axis. Ergonomic shape, great button placement -- and it's made of wood.

Gypsy Thief's Steampunk Charger

If you always have had a thing for Steampunk creations, you are going to love this Steampunk iPhone/iPod charger coming straight from the Thin Gypsy Thief's Steampunk Gear.

Kyle Miller (aka Thin Gypsy Thief), while giving final touches to his guitar, came up with the idea of a Steampunk dock for the iPhone/iPod. He thinks that this could be the kind of charger Tim Burton might need for his iPod or iPhone. The charger works pretty well and we hope to see it sometime at the Thin Gypsy Thief's Etsy shop.

Vacuum Ball

The Dust Ball is designed to roll around on your floor, propelled by an internal motor that shifts the center of gravity to make it move. When the battery is depleted the Dust Ball rolls back into its charging hoop, while a full container will cause it to stop and glow.

That sounds neat, but there's a reason other existing robotic cleaners are low and squat, as this allows them to get under furniture where dust bunnies tend to hide. The Dust Ball's big size also means it's going to have a hard time cleaning up close to the wall.

Girls Car

Ask you average male driver and he will probably tell you he is a better, safer driver than his wife/girlfriend/mother/sister. Problem is, the car insurance industry does not agree and Girls's car insurance is often cheaper than men's because the car insurers feel that it is Girls who are in fact, on the whole, the better drivers.

No not all Girls all great drivers and not all men are reckless speed demons but the car insurance companies cannot send out a rep to sit in the passenger seat and access the driving skills of every individual they sell a car insurance policy to in order to set their premium rate. There are also more Girls drivers on the road whose driving record is blemish free than there are men.

So yes, Girls's auto insurance premiums are likely to be a little lower than men's but there are things the guys can do to close the gender gap and score an inexpensive insurance policy as well. Spending an afternoon taking a defensive driving course will score them big points with all the insurance companies (as well as get them a nice piece of paper that states they are indeed safe drivers, even if they are not female.)

DIY Auto Repair

You might find it helpful to be acquainted with some of the terms you might experience while you seek advice and help for your vehicle maintenance.
1. Air Injection: A method of injecting air into each of the engine's exhaust ports which reduces the emission of harmful gases.
2. Air Shocks: An overload shock absorber that has to be injected with air to enhance the load carrying ability of the suspension.
3. Carburetor: Usually mounted on the intake manifold of an engine, it allows the mixing of air and fuel in the correct proportion to allow even burning.
4. Flushing: The process of removing dirt, dust and rust from the insides of the AC system parts.
5. Fuel Filters: It is a part which has the job of filtering the impurities of the fuel before it gets to the carburetor. Located either within the fuel pump or near it, or near the carburetor in the fuel line connecting the pump and the carburetor.
6. Half Shaft: Any one of the two shafts running from the transaxle to the wheel.
7. Heat Riser Valve: It is a control valve in a V6 or V8 engine, which is situated between the exhaust pipe and the exhaust manifold which checks the exhaust flow and makes it go into the heat riser channel under the intake manifold. If the valve is stuck open, the engine warm-up will slow down and cold engines might cause hesitation. Closed valve stuck will check the exhaust system and there will be a lack of power and fall in the fuel economy.

Owning your own car is a proud American tradition that has become a rite of passage for men and women alike. Of course, maintaining and repairing your own car is another important part of that same rite of passage and many even find deep satisfaction - as well as even deeper savings - by learning to do their own maintenance and repairs.

The tools on this list will allow you to perform 90% of tasks associated with do-it-yourself auto maintenance and repair:
Socket set
Box wrench set
You'll need screwdrivers to remove all kinds of parts like a fan cowling, mud flap, or door panel. Oil filter wrench
Jack and jackstands
Mini crowbar and mini sledge
Torque wrench
A torque wrench, which when set properly, literally breaks away at the right torque. Wire brush, utility knife, and pressure gauge
These are for small maintenance tasks such as cleaning your battery terminals, cutting hoses, and checking tire pressure regularly.

Auto Repair Busines

According to a December 2010 Reuters report, the "Sputtering economy puts auto repair firms in fast lane."

If one stops to think about it, it makes perfect sense why business is booming for auto repair shops. That tendency spells good news for mechanics and auto body technicians alike. As the news report puts it, "As consumers put off buying new cars, they create more repair and maintenance work for automotive repair companies."

This upswing in car repair business does not play favorites either. Percentage wise, the mom-and-pop shops are seeing as many new customers as the mega auto repair corporations. One industry expert anticipates that tendency toward repairing over replacement to last another two to five years, despite consumer spending rising 0.4 percent in October 2010. Of course, all this upkeep on their aging vehicles puts the burden on the consumers needing repair work. So what should these long-time vehicle owners be looking for in an auto repair service provider?

Family, friends, coworkers, neighbors- they're all game. That being said, if someone you know offers an auto repair shop praise, there's a pretty good bet it's well deserved.

You should also investigate what kind of warranty the repair shop extends on its services. Finally, make sure to take the repair technicians' qualifications into consideration. A commitment to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts and certified alternative components, with no knock-offs or cheap imitations ever being used also says a lot about an auto repair business.

Vehicle Repair

Unless you yourself have been making repairs on the car you are about to buy, which is highly unlikely, you must get an accurate, reliable vehicle repair history before you buy. The only true protection a used car buyer can count on is the vehicle repair history available from any of several different places. You can perform a complete vehicle history report which is highly recommended before you buy any used car but you can also request information on an auto's safety ratings, common trouble spots with any model of car currently available, average repair costs for your car and a comprehensive accident, repair and odometer history.

For instance, if the mileage seems terribly low given the age of the car, do an odometer check to see if the car's odometer has been replaced or altered by an unscrupulous seller. If you're looking for automotive training, is to obtain and begin the exciting career in automotive technology you need technical or vocational schools to find the right courses. Automotive training may be key to acquire automotive education and certification, if you are interested in becoming an auto mechanic, engineer, manager, or auto parts worker.

By using electronic equipment and computer-based reference, students in training schools should be able to develop automotive skills as a technician in order to diagnostic high technology. It is important to review the automotive training curriculum to ensure that your school will offer training certification Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is the same as with any educational curriculum.

Training in automotive technology often leads to an interest in related fields such as auto body repair or improvement of automotive and diesel.

Automotive Repair

In 1960, the average auto repair cost for a popular midsize car driven for 15,000 miles a year was about $8,053. It also helps fix problems while they are still manageable and do not yet affect a significant part of the car's systems.
If one part does not work as well as it should, the entire car system is affected. Here are a few systems found in a vehicle, along with the average cost of their repairs. The four-wheel drive's differential and transfer case, for example, has an average repair cost of $1100. Containing over a hundred parts, the air conditioner and heater system could incur repair costs as high as $700. The brake system, which is also comprised of more than a hundred parts, has an average repair cost of $350.

Repair costs for your car's electrical systems can reach $800. Troubleshooting your engine costs about $2000. You pay an average of $550 for repairs on the fuel system and $600 for the steering system.

Do not check the water level. By not checking the water level in your vehicle you run the risk of allowing your engine to overheat because of lack of coolant. The coolant level in a vehicle should be checked at a minimum of every three months.     Ignore the engine light. If you ignore this light you are slowly killing your car.

The engine will have to work harder and rev higher to do the same work it would normally be capable of.     Drive with a faulty coolant system. a partially blocked radiator or malfunctioning water pump can both cause an engine to overheat.
To circulate hot coolant from inside the engine moving the hot coolant to the radiator to be cooled and then replacing it with cooler coolant to keep the engine running at optimal temperature. If a radiator is blocked then it is not able to cool the coolant sufficiently and keep the engine running in the normal heat range.
If the water pump is faulty then there will be little or no circulation so no cool coolant will be moved into the engine and will cause the engine to overheat.

And the number one reason for engine failure is lack of normal servicing. By extending the interval time the oil is circulating debris throughout the oiling journals inside the engine. Wearing out internal components like main bearings, piston rings or big end bearings.

World's First X-Ray (1895): Röntgen's wife hand

In 1895 Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, professor of physics the University of Wurburg in Germany, was doing experiments with electrical discharges in evacuated glass tubes. Late in 1895 Wilhelm Röntgen was alone at night doing his experiments, this time in the dark and noticed a glow was produced on the wall, which he knew was not caused by fluorescence or visible light. He named these new, unidentified rays 'X' or if you prefer; X-rays.
After several months of playing with his discovery he noticed that objects place in the path of the rays cast shadows and created images on the wall. Soon after he used a photgraphic plate and had his wife, Frau Röntgen, place her hand in the path of the X-rays, creating the world's first X-ray picture. In 1901 Wilhelm Röntgen was awarded the very first Nobel Prize in Physics for this discovery.

Rubik's Cube Charger

The Rubik's Cube has conquered the world not just as a plaything, but as a useful device and this is proved by the new conceptual Rubik's Cube Magic Charger that can charge your gadgets. While the entire World is thinking to save energy and we celebrate Earth Hour and Earth Day, or Environment Day, still, there is a dearth of certain concrete steps taken in this direction. But this new concept of charging your mobile phone or MP3 player, etc. via Rubik Cube is revolutionary.

This Magic Charger saves energy that is converted to electric waves used in charging the gadgets. This energy is saved in the internal lithium-ion battery while we play with the cube and electro magnetic induction principles let the cube harness some energy to be further converted for use. I guess you must be wondering from where the charging slots are located; you need to pull the Rubik cube upwards to locate the USB charger. Now you won't think that it is worthless to play with a Rubik Cube, as you would be contributing towards the sustainable development.

A Study Says."Heart attacks more serious in morning"

Heart attacks that occur in the morning are likely to be more serious than attacks at other times of the day, a specialist journal reported on Wednesday.

Spanish researchers looked at data from 811 patients who had been admitted to a Madrid clinic with a myocardial infarction between 2003 and 2009.

They used levels of an enzyme in the blood to measure the extent of dead tissue, known as an infarct, which is caused by blocked blood supply to heart muscle.

Those who had had a heart attack between 6:00 am and noon, during the transition from darkness to light, had a 21-percent larger infarct compared with patients whose attack occurred between 6:00 pm and midnight.

The study, published in the British journal Heart, builds on previous evidence that circadian rhythm -- the famous "body clock" -- influences the heart in many ways such as blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac output and the function of cells that line cardiac blood vessels.

Of the 811 patients, 269 had their heart attacks in the period from 6:00 am to noon. More than three-quarters of the patients admitted to the clinic were men. Their average age was 62.

The findings should be useful in assessing the effectiveness of drugs against heart disease, the researchers said.(AFP)
